District Governor

Richard Williams

Gday – we are Debbie and Richard Williams, and it is with great anticipation and
pleasure that we look forward to the next twelve months while Richard serves as District
Governor.
We joined Lions as charter members of the Lions Club of Brisbane Inner North in 2008.
Prior to that Richard was a Rotaractor and Debbie a Leo, which is where we met. We
always intended to get back into a service club, but it took us a little bit longer than we
planned!
Richard worked for 34 years with the Australian Tax Office, mainly in Human
Resources, Organisational Development and Administrative Policy roles, with stints in
line management. Debbie was a primary school teacher for almost 40 years. We both
enjoy theatre, concerts, travel and spending time with friends. One of us supports
Tottenham Hotspur and has a keen interest in steam railways.
Richard has also volunteered with the Australian Railway Historical Society, is currently
president and a board member of Meals on Wheels Stafford and District, a committee
member of the Nundah and Districts Historical Society, and is a Tax Help volunteer
We like Lions because we are not restricted in who we help – ‘Where there is a need
there is a Lion’. We also know that the money we raise goes to the causes we support,
not Directors’ fees.
Lions is a great place to meet friends, get new skills and help your community. There’s
plenty of laughs and cuppas, but we are very proud of our service impact – if you are
not yet one of us, why not come along and check us out – see How to join – Lions Clubs Australia

William Butler Yeats may have speaking about Lions when he said ‘There are no
strangers here, only friends you have not met yet. We have met many people in our
time in Lions, and look forward to meeting many more of you in the next twelve months.
Take care
Debbie and Richard Williams
